I am a counselor-in-training, driven by my passion for play therapy. I’m so dedicated to learning all I can that I moved from my original counseling program in Georgia to pursue a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the leading school for play therapy research and training, the University of North Texas (UNT). My initial interest in play therapy has turned into a commitment to provide children with a safe space where they can have their voice heard through communicating their thoughts and feelings in a way that is natural to them.

As a child-centered play therapist, I believe that every child possesses unique strengths and abilities. My therapeutic approach is centered around honoring and celebrating these individual qualities by fostering a trusting and supportive relationship that empowers children to discover and explore their inner resources through play. I am eager to continue to learn and grow as a play therapist under the supervision of Jennifer Rette Russell, LPC-S, RPT.  If you're seeking a counselor to support your child's mental and emotional well-being, while also supporting you as a parent throughout their counseling journey, then please reach out.

Hello! I’m Abbie, and I’m a second-year doctoral student in clinical psychology at The Chicago School - Dallas. I’m so excited for the opportunity to work with you and your families throughout this year. I know that seeking help and allowing a glimpse into your personal lives is a significant step and can often be difficult. I want to assure you that I am here to be a helping hand in your journey and offer a safe space where you can feel comfortable to be yourself and learn how to better understand your body and mind. I have two Master's degrees in Counseling and Child Life, and I am also a Licensed Professional Counselor. With these experiences, I have had the privilege of working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families during numerous hardships and struggles throughout the past seven years. I have academic training in play therapy techniques, cognitive behavioral strategies, trauma and grief work, and assessments.

During my time at The Institute for Health, I will be taking on the role of a doctoral level practicum student under the supervision of Dr. Smith (Psy.D., LP), working closely with her to ensure you're getting the best possible care and resources. I look forward to the opportunity to meet with you, learn more about your personal journey, and discuss how we can work together to grow. You are important. You are here. You deserve to be heard.
